Seokguram(built in 751~774) is a man-made grotto that houses a Buddhist shrine high above Bulguksa (temple) on the eastern slope of Mt. Toham, near the historic city of Gyeongju. It was built during a golden age of Buddhist art in the Silla Dynasty and embodies the highest principles of architecture, mathematics, geometry, religion, and art of its time. It has been designated Korea's National Treasure No. 24, and along with Bulguksa was proclaimed a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in December 1995.
